Classical Glass 5-Star
August 13-15, 2010
DuPont, Washington     -   Don Evans

Paul and Chris' 2009-ZO6Hospitality night was really laid-back.  Dyarle Sharkey, Jerry McGee, Randy, Meghan and I sat in the no-minor zone refreshing ourselves with great libation.  Chris and Paul, Cheryl, Goldie behaved themselves under the awnings of the minor section.  After greeting old friends and meeting a few new Corvette owners, we made our way back to the Liberty Inn.

Saturday morning was full of hustle as the serious people were up early - yes, even Goldie - having breakfast, then off to the Shine and Show event around 7 am.  Each Corvette was photographed before we were parked by class.  Most of us spent two dedicated hours cleaning, dusting and polishing our loves.  However, not to mention any names, but D&C slept in and drug their well rested bodies to the park around noon.

A live band played a variety of old and new rock. The park was infested with vendors.  Wandering around the park, we bumped into our own president and lovely first lady, Larry and Alice.  After feasting on the free lunch, we met up with Jan and Mike Strange.  Mike indicated he had much to learn regarding shine and show competition.  After the people's choice cars made their parade laps, we packed up our chairs and raffle prizes and drove back to our hotel.

Three shuttles offered the choice of driving or the bus ride.  Meghan and I arrived at the Medicine Creek Winery and parked out in the field.  Jerry and Meghan received their first place autocross trophies from Rose City Corvettes-the event held two weeks prior.  The meal was very good, the free water and beer even better, and a few of us sampled many glasses of wine.  Throughout the evening, awards for the Shine and Show were given out.  Our own Chris and Paul received a third place trophy in the under 10K class.  Our entrants did very well, considering the really tough competition - over 130 Corvettes!  The Blues Brother review cranked up the tunes.  Goldie and Alice - what party animals....both can really "shake a tail feather"!  Larry had to spoil the fun and dragged Alice away.  I know she wanted to stay.  The band shut down around 10 pm thankfully, or we may have stayed later.  We headed back to the hotel for a little shut-eye before Sunday's events.

Another early up Sunday morning for Jerry and the Evans clan.  We went racing at Shelton.  The course was really fun.  I know I am getting too old for this, or the beer must have slowed me down.  Meghan was within a second of me, and that darn supercharged Callaway (and Jerry) nipped me on our last run.

The folks that went on the rally Sunday - didn't hear if they made it back or not.  I can only vouch for Meghan and I - we had a great time and look forward to the 21st annual 5-star.

Shine and Show
Special Report by Don Evans
In addition to the 18th annual Bow-Tie Bash, the CRC hosted our second NWACC Shine and Show competition. Forty-nine Corvettes entered, including thirteen beautiful Corvettes from Columbia River Corvettes. If you scored over 90 out of the 100 possible, you had a good-looking corvette.

The ones in our club that received awards were:

  • Chris and Paul Pruett barely edged out Jerry McGee in the Under-10K class. Alice and Larry Richter took 1st in C1, while LaDonna and Doug Stack placed 3rd with their 443,800-mile 1961 Corvette.
  • The C3 proved once again that driving your Corvette can improve your chances of winning. Randy Rodahl tied for 3rd place in total points, but lost the tie-breaker by 180,000 miles! Jim Bates was also in the CS3 competition.
  • Bill Parsons showed well with his lowest mileage C4.
  • C5 convertibles—a class I helped to judge—was very tight. Only one and one-half point separated the entrants. Mary Ellen and Bill Pietz were only one and on-half point out of first. C5 coupes were the largest class with eleven entrants. Mike Marum finished ninth and Marva and Tim Mackin finished 6th—both with 98.5 points.
  • C6 Coupe had three CRC entrants. Meghan and Don Evans finished 5th, Duane Otteson 6th, and Debbie and Lynn Cook's black beauty finished 7th.

A big thanks to the CRC members who volunteered to help me judge: Jim Slack, Tom Burgoyne, Linda Evans, Meghan Evans, Tim Mackin, Duane Otteson, Chris Pruett, Vicky Schierscher, and Doug Slack. I am sure most will agree that judging is as hard as preparing your Corvette for the show.

There are two more Shine and Show events this year. It only takes two events to qualify for year-end awards. Shine up your beauty and enter Rose City Corvettes' event on Saturday, July 31st, at Jansen Beach. Let's show NWACC clubs what a well-prepared Corvette should look like.

Several of our members are also competing in the Auto Cross Events. Meghan Evans, Jerry McGee and Mike Marum have been having success at the track and a lot of fun, to boot!

Tahoe Tour 40

Excerpt: "Friday morning we caravanned to Virginia City.  What a sight, the Corvettes snaking down the grade, through Carson City, and up the grade towards our destination.  We were hungry, as usual, therefore breakfast and then in and out of the shops.  We drove back to Tahoe and readied for the slot tournament.  Linda had the top score between us, but that was thirty per cent of the top score.  A hoedown with a “best drink” contest followed back at the hotel."   Read the whole story here.

Cruzing Magazine Covers the Bow Tie Bash

Longview, Wash. -- On July 7, 2007 the Columbia River Corvette Club hosted their 17th (our first) 'Bow Tie Bash.' It's always fun to go to a show that you've never been to because you never know what to expect. This show surpassed all of our expectations. Click here for pdf download of story: page 1 | page 2

2007 Bow-Tie Bash a Winner

The Columbia River Corvettes hosted their 15th Annual Bow-Tie Bash on Commerce Avenue in downtown Longview on July 7th, 2007. The show was a huge success with over 200 cars attending. With the proceeds from the car show the club was able to donate to the following charities: Community Home Health & Hospice, Emergency Support Shelter, Children’s Community Resource Center, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Cancer Society, and the WSU Master Gardener Foundation. Without the support of our local businesses and car enthusiasts these donations would not have been possible.
